Maybe He Needs to Watch Bull Durham Again
Josh Dubow of the Associated Press writes:
Maybe the next time a Boston pitcher takes a no-hit bid into the ninth inning, he’ll listen to catcher Jason Varitek.
Curt Schilling came within one out of his first career no-hitter Thursday, losing his bid when Shannon Stewart lined a clean single to right field after Schilling shook off his catcher. Schilling finished with a one-hitter as the Red Sox beat the Oakland Athletics 1-0.
Catcher Crash Davis (Kevin Costner), in the great film, Bull Durham discussing Ebby Calvin “Nuke” LaLoosh’s (Tim Robbins) shaking him off:
He’s throwing a two-hit shutout and he’s shaking me off, can you believe that shit? Charlie, here comes the deuce and when you speak of me, speak well.

Come on Nuke you’re the man no batter no batter no batter chuck hard chuck hard you got it baby!
