Carey and I have become members of the Arboretum of Los Angeles County for a year. Finding a place so lush with vegetation in Southern California offers a unique breather from the asphalt and power lines. I’d hate to see their water bill, however. Here are some pictures. I’ll be posting more as the year progresses I’m sure.

Nice! I wish we had peacocks in the Davis Arboretum.

Peacocks do look very cool and are surprisingly sneaky. But I don’t think I’d want them in the Davis Arboretum—they’re way too noisy. I’ll take the ducks.

I remember going to the zoo in Portland for the first time with our kids and this huge, grand peacock like the one in your photograph (which is lovely!) starts walking toward us. Aaron, who knew maybe ten words at this point, looked up and started pointing excitedly and saying loudly: “DUCK! DUCK!” over and over again. And I couldn’t help but imagine the peacock was a bit offended.
